Job Description BAE Systems is hiring Crane Operators to support
the Norfolk Ship Repair facility.Position SummaryThe Crane Operator
performs a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving crane
operation, crane safety, crane lift and maintenance. The Crane
Operator operates heavy equipment necessary for the repair and
maintenance of cranes; documents and records work performed;
follows specified safety policies and procedures.Key
Responsibilities & Functional KnowledgeThis list is representative
of the key areas of responsibility and functional knowledge
required of an operator in the Crane shop. A third class mechanic
must demonstrate a developing knowledge of the skills, functional
knowledge and abilities required to perform tasks in these and
related areas of responsibility. Intermediate knowledge means that
the mechanic understands how to perform tasks in these categories
(including, but not limited to, the specific tasks identified
below) and is able to complete them independently, without
assistance. This also means that the mechanic has the necessary
level of knowledge of the equipment, protective gear, and machinery
required to complete these tasks. The mechanic must demonstrate
developing knowledge in the following key areas: --- Crane
Operationo Qualified to operate 2 or more electrically, hydraulic
and manual powered cranes in a seated positiono Qualified to
operate at least one portable crane to include: G8, G7, G3, wing
wall crane, diesel electric, diesel hydro, all electrico
Understanding of cranes and functions --- Crane & Lift Maintenanceo
Assist with maintenance of the cranes and lifts dailyo Understand
all lubrication --- General Crane Housekeepingo Clean, grease and
perform general housekeeping for the cranes --- Crane Safetyo
Understand crane safety limits, devices and locations that make the
cranes safe to useo Understand all procedures for fire, accident or
injury prevention and response --- Other Heavy Equipmento Must have
knowledge to work with heavy equipmentRequired Education,
Experience, & Skills Practical Theory RequirementsA third class
mechanic must demonstrate developing knowledge of one or two mobile
cranes and at least one portable crane, including the operation,
function, capacity and care of the cranes per OSHA Standards. Other
Requirements--- Must be able to read, write and comprehend simple
instructions--- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to
carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form--- Must be
able to calculate and understand units of measure--- Must be able
to wear standard shipyard PPEEducation Minimum: High School
Diploma/GEDMinimum Relevant Experience: 4 to 7 yrs.Must be
certified in 1 crane (either portal or mobile cranes)Must be
certified on a at least 1 portable crane to include: G8, G7, G3,
wing wall crane, diesel electric, diesel hydro, all electric.All
required crane certifications are done through a third party, North
American Crane Bureau (NACB). Third class mechanics must be
certified before operating crane. Re-certifications are required
after three years on the portal crane and 5 years on the mobile
crane per the NACB.This job description does not include all
