and leaders Chief Purpose of this position: VCU Health Community
Memorial Hospital is a 100-bed hospital with a wide range of care.
VCU built a brand-new hospital that opened in 2017 and is both
aesthetically and clinically spectacular. This non-profit hospital
that merged with VCU in 2015.
Current primary service area is around 80,000, covering
Mecklenburg, Lunenburg, and Brunswick Counties with secondary
service area extending into North Carolina. Daily census ranges
from 35 to 55 patients. EMR - EPIC.
Position Responsibilities:
Schedule
- 7 on 7 off, double covered during the day
- Proposed 6am to 6pm, then 6pm to 6am
- Working in two three physician teams, sharing nights and days
equally. So 1:3 nights, just over 8 weeks per year total. Call
Schedule
- 1:3 nights, just over 8 weeks per year total Patient Load
- 100% inpatient with ICU coverage
- Average inpatient census is 30 to 56. (2 teams during the
day)
- Day shift: 18 to 28 patients per day per team divided between
two providers (APP and hospitalist) (double covered) and 6 to 10
admissions during the day
- Night: Average 4-8 admissions, and on-call coverage of 35 to
50. Night is mostly admissions. Procedures
- CODES: Codes on the floor are worked by hospitalist but ED docs
show up as well to each code to assist unless called off by
hospitalist
- ED Admissions: Hospitalist orders to admit patients to the
floor &ICU
- The following procedures are preferred but not an absolute
requirement for hospitalist: thoracentesis, abdominal paracentesis,
central line placement, and ventilator management. Surgeons,
anesthesia or ED physicians help with these procedures Required
Qualifications:
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family
Practice
- MD or DO
